Aftershock 2026 music festival guide: Which bands are playing each day?

David GrovesSACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Are you ready to rock?

An estimated 40,000 rock, punk, and metal fans from Northern California and across the country are expected to pack Discovery Park for four days this weekend for Aftershock.

The West Coast’s largest rock music festival is once again loaded with a high-octane lineup of bands from around the world. Each day, about 35 bands will rock five stages, over 10 hours of non-stop riffs.

What to know about the bands performing Aftershock 2026

Thursday

While there are no official themes, it’s easy to see that the organizers at Danny Wimmer Presents clearly got fans of certain music a night they can get fired up about.

That starts on Thursday with an Emo-centric lineup. Just don’t tell headliner My Chemical Romance that. They are joined on the opening night by The Used and three iconic Southern California bands, Sublime, Lit, and The Offspring.

The metalheads will stick to the stages that feature bands like Killswitch Engage, Sevendust and Theory of a Deadman.

Those who like the newer wave of melodic metal will dive into Nothing More, From Ashes to New, and Wind Walkers. The Emo fans will be hooked if they try those bands out.

But you can’t go on Thursday without catching the must-see band of the festival, The Pretty Reckless. They are fronted by former child actress Taylor Momsen, who everyone will remember as Cindy Lou Who in Jim Carey’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” She’s all grown up now, and her band has more number 1 hits (9) on the modern rock charts than any other female-fronted band in history. They also opened for AC/DC on their tour this summer.

Friday

For those attending on Friday, brace yourselves for some aggressive rock.

Limp Bizkit is the headliner, and you never know what frontman Fred Durst will do. Although the band’s smash hit “Break Stuff” is probably a good indication of what you can expect.

Rap is the not-so-hidden theme of the night as classic old-school groups Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy celebrating 40 years will storm the stages.

That’s right, Fred Durst, Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Method Man and Ghostface Killah all in Sacramento on the same night? Yeah, and throw in Insane Clown Posse, $uicideboy$, and Three 6 Mafia and you might not think you are at a metal festival.

If you do forget, just go over to the stages featuring Slaughter to Prevail, Underoath, P.O.D., and Drowning Pool and you will have a hard time avoiding any area that isn’t a mosh pit. While the crowds will come for those styles, the night also features guitar geniuses Coheed and Cambria, plus Mudvayne and HELLYEAH frontman Chad Gray celebrating 20 years of making hits.

Saturday

Saturday’s headliner has finally made it. Jumping from emo popularity to post hardcore success, San Diego band Pierce the Veil’s hard work has given them the most surprising—and well-deserved headline spot. If you haven’t heard them, don’t miss. It won’t take you long to become a fan.

Day 3’s lineup will leave fans exhausted trying to catch so many bands. A Day to Remember is back with a vengeance. The early 2000s band has just spun a slew of new hits, combining metalcore and pop-punk.

Sleeping with Sirens, The Devil Wears Prada, Escape the Fate, Wage War, and Set It Off have produced dozens of hits over the past decade, bouncing from pop hooks to deep-throated screams.

We don’t have Ozzy anymore, but we do have his guitarist, Zakk Wylde brings Black Label Society to Sacramento.

But if you want something different, Saturday has that. Doobie has a fun set that lives up to his name. And how about a Japanese girl band? You’ve got to check out BABYMETAL. You won’t be disappointed.

Sunday

Finally, things wrap up with a bang on Sunday. Tool will close the festival on a day filled with legends. That includes Queens of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, AFI, Wolfmother, Suicidal Tendencies, Body Count featuring Ice-T, Filter, and Toadies.

That’s not all. Zakk Wylde returns to the stage with Zakk Sabbath, covering Ozzy’s Black Sabbath songs, and movie-composing legend Danny Elfman.

Sunday also features some newer bands that also have big fan bases, including Highly Suspect and Sacramento’s first-ever appearances by the U.K.’s President and Mexican rockers Ladrones.

If you like Demi Lovato, maybe she will be here to cheer on her husband when his self-named band Jutes plays.

This is a Sacramento festival and the city has produced a lot of great bands. Two of them will also take the home stage, Oleander and Dance Gavin Dance.
