San Diego police are investigating the suspicious death of a 63-year-old woman found in her apartment by a property management employee in the East Village on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called after the woman was discovered in the apartment on 17th Street around 2 p.m.
“Due to the unusual circumstances, and in an abundance of caution, detectives from the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation,” acting Lt. Christopher Leahy said in a statement.
Police said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will work to determine the woman’s cause and manner of death.
