FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Another popular raw milk cheese is being recalled, but according to store representatives, it’s still being sold in Fresno.

Sierra Nevada Cheese Company announced Monday it was recalling its Graziers Raw Milk Cheese due to a potential E. coli contamination. On Tuesday, the FDA followed suit.

So far, they have identified 13 illnesses.

The Willows-based brand is sold at several Valley stores, including at Grocery Outlet and Whole Foods. But the specific cheese in question is only sold at three Sprouts stores in the area: the two in Fresno and the one in Clovis.

As of Wednesday, the stores in Fresno say they haven’t received confirmation from Sprouts to pull the product from their shelves; the Clovis store, however, has, and via phone call confirmed to YourCentralValley.com that they pulled the affected products from their shelves last week.

While the investigation has not been narrowed to a specific lot, date code, or production date, the company asks that consumers avoid purchasing the product — even if it’s still being sold — until further notice.

They say those who eat the contaminated food may experience acute diarrhea within a few days, but often recover within a week.

They add that children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems can develop Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), a severe illness characterized by hemolytic anemia (red cell breakdown), thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), renal failure, and death.
