On September 29, a state trooper was patrolling the area of 2800 Highway 64 in Fayette County when he saw a dark green Ford Ranger traveling westbound at a high rate of speed while the Oakland Police were pursuing and attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The trooper then began chasing after the vehicle and saw the suspect cut off multiple vehicles, change lanes recklessly, and still refuse to stop for Oakland Police.

The chase then entered into Shelby County; the state trooper continued following the vehicle and saw two people inside, authorities said.

As the vehicle refused to stop, spike strips were set up at Highway 64 and Interstate 269 after the vehicle continued driving over the speed limit and ran a red light at Collierville Arlington Rd.

The vehicle came to a stop at the I-269 overpass to avoid running over spikes, THP said.

The two suspects were arrested, and authorities identified the driver as Lysander Willis and the passenger as India Edwards.

After searching the vehicle, investigators seized tinfoil wrappers with residue on them, two straws with white residue, a digital scale covered in white residue, 39 yellowish-tube-shaped pills, an orange circular pill, and a white substance, troopers said.

THP said the suspects told them the white substance was fentanyl, but neither claimed ownership of it.

The white substance later tested positive for fentanyl, and the pills seized were identified and suspected to be laced with fentanyl, investigators said.

Willis admitted to troopers that the chase started because of the narcotics and drug paraphernalia in their car. He also allegedly told them that he was wanted by Oakland Police.

Oakland Police said both suspects were involved in multiple thefts and fraud felonies in the past week. They will be charged in Fayette County.

Investigators say they also seized multiple credit cards belonging to different people in the vehicle.

Edwards has a $150,000 bond. Willis’s bond has not been set, and the two are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
