Re “New California laws target drunken drivers” (Sept. 26): How about enforcing the law against texting while driving? When I ride my motorcycle and I see a car over the double yellow line headed right at me, the person attempting to drive is always not looking at the road but at a cell phone. At least a drunken driver is looking at the road. They may see two of me, but at least they see me.

The penalty for texting while driving is merely a slap on the wrist compared to a DUI. Why? We put our lives in the hands of other drivers. Why gamble on those who are not even looking at where their car/truck is going?
