BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Northbound Interstate 5 near Lebec is back open after a semi-truck crash and fire forced a temporary closure Wednesday night.
The CHP’s website said the incident began on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at around 7:21 p.m. when a semi-truck went into the west escape ramp on northbound I-5.
Shortly afterward, officials received reports that the semi had caught fire and flames were spreading to nearby grass.
CHP Fort Tejon posted on Facebook that crews shut down northbound I-5 at Lebec Service Road and diverted traffic to eastbound Highway 138.
All northbound lanes are open.
