
Sacramento will open two community cooling centers this weekend, as high temperatures are forecast to rise between 94 and 100 degrees
The city’s Outreach and Engagement Center at 3615 Auburn Blvd. will open beginning Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. it will remain open until 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Walk-ups to the center will be accepted and the facility has storage available for personal belongings if needed. Pets are permitted at the Center.
The North 5th Street Navigation Center at 700 North Fifth St. will open Saturday afternoon. It will be open daily, including Monday, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Pets are not permitted at the Navigation Center.
A heat advisory has been issued for Sacramento and the lower Sacramento valley between Saturday at 11 a.m. and Monday at 10 p.m. Temperatures are expected to peak above 100 degrees in the foothills and further south in portions of the San Joaquin Valley.
Sacramento Bee meteorologist Sean Macaday advised those attending the Aftershock music festival to take the weather into consideration since there will not be a Delta breeze to cool things down in the evening and at night.
