Anaheim Ducks News & Notes
Leo Carlsson remains the centerpiece of Anaheim’s rebuild three years after going second overall in the 2023 draft, behind only Connor Bedard. His game is regarded as more well-rounded than Bedard’s, and he matched the Chicago center’s offensive pace through the first leg of last season, drawing comparisons to Leon Draisaitl as a big, elite forward. Beckett Sennecke, the surprise third overall pick in 2024, is a big-bodied forward whose all-around game has made him one of the organization’s more popular young pieces.
The front office handled business on the blue line this week, signing Tristan Luneau to a six-year contract extension. Anaheim carries the league’s #FlyTogether hashtag into an 84-game schedule that follows the close of preseason.
Vegas Golden Knights News & Notes
Vegas reshaped its forward group over the summer. On June 26, the Golden Knights traded Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers, receiving a 2026 first-round pick originally belonging to Dallas, the 92nd overall selection and a top-10 protected 2028 pick. Dorofeyev was coming off a career-high 64 points in 82 games, plus 16 points in 22 playoff contests. Vegas later signed Victor Olofsson to help replace that production and hired Craig as head coach.
The depth chart saw other changes. Goaltender Akira Schmid, who went 16-10-6 with a 2.59 goals-against average in 34 games for Vegas last season, signed a two-year deal with Florida in late July. Defenseman Lukas Cormier re-signed on a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000 at the NHL level after posting 47 points in 49 games with Henderson. William Karlsson, who left Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final with an injury, agreed to a two-year, $13.5 million extension.

Players To Watch
Leo Carlsson — Anaheim Ducks
Carlsson led the Ducks with four shots last time out while picking up an assist in 17:41 of ice time, tied for the team high among forwards. With Troy Terry on injured reserve, Anaheim needs that workload from its center, and a shots-on-goal prop looks like the cleanest way to back him tonight.
Trevor Connelly — Vegas Golden Knights
Connelly fired four shots and scored in only 11:22 last game, the most attempts of any Golden Knight. Box Score Junkie has him at a 68.0% Corsi-for this season to date, with 89.7 shot attempts for per 60 and 0.8 high-danger xG generated — the best possession numbers on the roster despite the smallest minutes.
