Homicide investigation

Detectives on Thursday arrested two men on suspicion of homicide in a Sacramento shooting two years ago that killed one man and wounded another in North Oak Park.

Javon Antwon Crump, 22, of Antelope and Dion Marquis Murphy, 36, of Elk Grove were arrested on suspicion of homicide in the September 2024 shooting that killed John Kevin Parker, 22, of Sacramento.

On Friday, Crump and Murphy were being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail. Sacramento Superior Court records show their arraignment hearing has not yet been scheduled.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants in the homicide case after “an extensive investigation and the relentless pursuit of the suspects,” the Sacramento Police Department announced Friday in an update posted to social media.

The deadly shooting was reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sept. 7, 2024, in the 4000 block of Fourth Avenue in the residential neighborhood just north of Broadway in Sacramento.

Police said officers arrived and found two men, each with at least one gunshot wound. Both victims were taken by ambulance to a hospital. One of the shooting victims, later identified as Parker, succumbed to his injuries.

The Police Department has not released any details about what might have led to the fatal shooting.
