Fried Oreos have long been a fair favorite, but at the Kern County Fair this week, one vendor is offering a twist: fried brownies.
Sweets by J is featuring two new items for the final weekend of the fair, including what owner Erica Quintero described as the “Dubai straw brownie,” made with “Dubai chocolate,” pistachio cream, fresh strawberries and brownies mixed together.

The second new item is a fried brownie, which Quintero said came from the idea of taking a familiar fair treat and switching it up.
“We had brownies, and I’m like, you know what? I love a fried Oreo. So why don’t we fry a brownie?” she said. “So we messed it around, and fried it up, and all this was so good.”
Beyond the new items, Erica said some of the stand’s fan favorites include mini pancakes, fresas con crema, a gansito frappe, and the bubble waffle cone and waffle on a stick.
Sweets by J is located next door to the Boy Scout Troop booth at the fair.
