Del Mar’s Market Restaurant and Sushi Lounge has temporarily closed for a remodel. The fine dining farm-to-table restaurant on Via de la Valle closed its doors on Sept. 21 and with demolition now underway, it is set to reopen in spring 2027.
“A new chapter is coming,” reads a post on Market’s website. “We’ll be transforming the restaurant with beautiful new interiors, expanded dining spaces and an exciting new menu.”
Open for 20 years in Del Mar, Market has been recognized by the Michelin Guide for its cuisine and setting. Founder and chef Carl Schroeder sold the restaurant to new owners Monica and Bernd Brust in 2025. The new owners stated plans to continue the tradition of the “cherished” restaurant and invest in long-needed upgrades to the building near the intersection of El Camino Real.
