An incident between two Coronado Middle School students Tuesday morning left one student injured and prompted a police response to the campus, authorities said.

A student on a stretcher was seen being transported from the school by Coronado firefighters.

Coronado police said on social media that officers responded to the F Avenue campus about 10:20 a.m. for “an incident involving two students” at the school. Both children were located, the department said, and one was being treated.

“There is no active threat to students or staff at this time,” police said. “The school is not on lockdown, and out of an abundance of caution, officers are conducting a security sweep of the campus.”

Police blocked off traffic on F Avenue between 5th Street and 6th Streets.

Neither police nor school officials said what specifically happened.  In a message send to parents, the school called it “an insolated incident.”

“One student sustained an injury as a result of the incident and is currently being transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment,” the school said in the statement, which the district provided to the Union-Tribune. “Out of respect for the student’s privacy, we will not be releasing further details at this time.”

The message from the middle school said “there is no larger threat to the broader student body or staff.” Students and staff were safe, it said, adding that police were investigating and the school was “cooperating fully with local authorities as they review the matter.”
