A woman looking for a dropped cell phone in a traffic lane and a man fatally injured by a hit-and-run driver were among five people killed in separate traffic collisions on East Bay freeways and streets between Friday afternoon and early Sunday, authorities said..
The most recent incident happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on eastbound Highway 4 near Contra Loma Boulevard in the Antioch area.
California Highway Patrol Ofc. Daniel Gilmore said Monday that a 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in a vehicle was holding her cell phone outside the vehicle filming a video of some kind.
She dropped her phone onto the roadway and the vehicle she was in stopped in the center median, Gilmore said. The woman then walked into a traffic lane to look for the phone and was struck by two vehicles. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name and residence were not immediately released.
The drivers of the two vehicles remained at the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision. All eastbound lanes were closed for about three hours while officers investigated. Anyone with information may call the CHP Contra Costa office at 925-387-1900.
About 11:59 p.m. Saturday a man was killed when he was ejected from a vehicle that had crashed on the Harrison Street offramp from westbound Interstate 580 in Oakland, the CHP said. The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle driving northbound on Lakeside Drive at high speed. A detailed description of the driver and the vehicle were not released. Anyone with information may call Oakland traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
About 3:30 p.m. Friday a man was killed when his pickup truck crashed into the rear of a tractor trailer on westbound Interstate 80 at Ashby Avenue.

And about 12:16 p.m. Friday a man suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle collided with a box truck on state Highway 92 in Hayward, the CHP said.
The collision happened on the eastbound Highway 92 transition to northbound Interstate 880.
The motorcyclist was lane splitting when he collided with the truck and was ejected onto the roadway, CHP Officer Rolando Guzman said. The man, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to a hospital where he later died.
