Here are Oakland County’s top 10 football teams following the sixth week of the 2026 season:

1. Detroit Catholic Central (6-0 D1) — Indeed, Gideon Gash just might be from another planet. He made more eye-popping plays and DCC created turnovers in their biggest test so far this season, a 31-12 win over Toledo Central Catholic. It seems like Duke Banta may have been a casualty in the win, though. The severity of that injury remains to be seen ahead of this Friday’s big showdown in Orchard Lake.

2. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (5-1 D2) — High school field, college football stadium or baseball park, Jabin Gonzales is lighting up defenses this season. St. Mary’s has scored no fewer than 35 points this season, including 90 points combined the last two weeks against Brother Rice and Warren De La Salle. The law of transitive property and everything else suggests the Eaglets and Shamrocks will decide who’s best of the best in the Catholic League this Friday and it should be a fantastic watch.

3. Clarkston (6-0 D1) — The Wolves steamrolled at home Friday against West Bloomfield for the fourth game this season in which they’ve allowed less than 10 points. Can Lake Orion throw a wrench into their plans of winning an outright OAA Red title? With games against the Dragons, Harper Woods and Muskegon still remaining, there’ll be no questions about whether Clarkston is a battle-tested team when the playoffs arrive.

4. Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice (5-1 D2) — A 46-19 home win over St. Francis De Sales saw Brother Rice welcome back quarterback Sammy Eyde. It’s the right time to be healthy before having to face Toledo CC. If the Warriors can go across the boarder and win that one Friday, they should remain in position to win a split of the CHSL Central when their date with Detroit Catholic Central in the final week of the regular season arrives.

5. Oxford (5-1 D1) — Trevor Potts and the rest of the Oxford coaching staff deserve their plaudits for last Friday’s 15-14 victory over Rochester Adams. Electing to go for two rather than settling for a tie when the Highlanders still had time to go and take the lead was a decision that paid off in a big way. Oxford will be favored to beat West Bloomfield, but will need help from Lake Orion to be anything better than second-best in the league. Still, being potentially 7-1 heading into the Week 9 home game against Romeo still wouldn’t be all that bad for the Wildcats.

6. South Lyon East (6-0 D2) — Having swept the Livonia and Farmington schools, the Cougars have handled the business in front of them. But all questions about their quality will be answered by Friday’s rivalry game at South Lyon (which is followed by a visit from WL Western). Revenge will be on their minds after consecutive losses to the Lions to end East’s 2025 campaign.

7. Stoney Creek (5-1 D1) — Last Friday’s game against Rochester was one circled on the calendar for both teams dating at least back to August, and the Cougars left no doubt about who was the better of the two city and league rivals. Now that they’ve wrapped up the OAA White, another inner-city showdown awaits in Week 7 with a short trip to face Adams.

8. South Lyon (4-2 D2) — OK, it may not make sense on first glance for the Lions to jump WL Western after being unranked last week, but sometimes prior wins have to be recontextualized when you’re dealing with a a conference like the LVC that plays an unbalanced schedule. South Lyon had the best loss of any in Clarkston, while the victories over WL Western and Milford have continued to look better considering the Lions are responsible for both of those team’s sole losses. It’s all going to get reevaluated after this week’s game against East, anyhow.

9. Milford (5-1 D2) — The Mavericks could have stumbled to mid-table status after getting dismantled at home by South Lyon. Instead, they picked up the pieces and have responded with back-to-back victories, including a 35-8 beating of North Farmington. Slowing the Raiders’ offense like that is something the LVC’s other top sides have yet to do, so it deserves recognition. Milford will have a chance to win its fourth road game in as many tries this fall with this weekend’s game at Farmington.

10. Walled Lake Western (5-1 D2) — It might seem unfair to have the Warriors dip for drubbing a rival 54-6. But the reality is that even if they win this week, their last three wins will have come against teams that came in with just one victory themselves. Truth be told, Western won’t be concerned with any of this knowing that they can still craft a league title, but it’ll have to be forged by winning tough contests against SL East and Milford on the road.
