The Oakland Police Department is investigating an early-morning shooting that left a victim hospitalized Sunday.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting just after 2:30 a.m. in the 4300 block of Rilea Way. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The victim was transported to a hospital and was last reported in stable condition.

According to a preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and pointed a firearm at them. As the victim raised an arm to defend themselves, they were shot. The suspect then allegedly pistol-whipped the victim before fleeing on foot.

The identities of the parties involved were not immediately available.
