A California Amber Alert that began with the discovery of a dead newborn on a roadside has ended with a rescue and an arrest in Mexico, NBC News reports. Authorities say a 14-year-old Monterey County girl, believed to have given birth to the infant now dubbed “Baby Angelita,” was located by Mexican law enforcement and is in their care. Her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez, was taken into custody in Mexico after allegedly being found with narcotics and is wanted in California on multiple felony counts, including incest, lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, unlawful sexual intercourse, and child endangerment.
Investigators believe the teen became pregnant through her father’s sexual abuse, delivered the baby by the road, and left the infant there. Galvez Perez is accused of abusing the teen beginning in November 2025, KCRA reports. The two had been missing for two months, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Prosecutors originally said the girl was wanted on suspicion of murder, but the DA’s office now says authorities have not decided whether to charge her. “We recognize that the 14-year-old is a victim of her father’s abuse. No child should ever have to endure such horrific circumstances,” the office said in a statement last month. The girl’s mother is out on bail after she was arrested in August on child endangerment allegations.
