A 4-week-old Hazel Park infant is hospitalized after suffering multiple broken bones, allegedly caused by his father who is now facing criminal charges.

Cody Christopher Patterson, 20, of Hazel Park, reportedly admitted to taking the baby boy into the bathroom and forcibly squeezing and manipulating his limbs because he “becomes frustrated and cannot cope with the baby crying,” according to the Hazel Park Police Department.

Patterson was arraigned Monday on three counts of second-degree child abuse, and bond was set at $500,000.

Patterson was arrested Oct. 1 at a local hospital, police said. The infant had been transported there after officers — called to a Hazel Park home on a report of a baby with a broken arm —  noted that the child exhibited shoulder pain and had bruising above the eye, police said.

Hospital staff determined the baby had sustained multiple fractures to both arms and legs, and ribs — and the injuries were in different stages of healing, police said. Children’s Protective Services was notified.

Patterson is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 13 for a probable cause conference. A preliminary exam is scheduled for Oct. 20.
