A 26-year-old man who was charged in April with kidnapping a female UCLA student in March 2026 and the rape of another woman in October 2025 in Culver City has died, multiple Law enforcement sources tell NBC 4
Police and paramedics responded to the 800 block of San Vicente shortly before 6 p.m. Monday night to reports of a person not breathing after a family member found the man unresponsive in a bedroom.
Personnel with the Santa Monica Fire Department also responded to the report and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The man was later identified as a 26-year-old Alexander Schecter.
Foul play is not suspected and the case is being investigated as suspected suicide; a death investigation has been opened.
The final determination of the cause and manner of death will be made by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, the Santa Monica Police Department said.
Schecter, who was out on bond, was due in court on Tuesday for a preliminary setting.
