SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A year has passed since a medical helicopter crash in Sacramento claimed the life of Redding flight nurse Susie Smith. The community continues to remember her service and sacrifice.

The crash happened on October 6 last year on Highway 50. The flight originated in Redding, stopped in Red Bluff, then at UC Davis Medical Center before crashing as it was taking off.

3 people were onboard the helicopter. Flight nurse Susie Smith, pilot Chad Millward and paramedic Margaret “Dede” Davis were all injured in the crash.

Smith later passed away from her injuries. She was honored earlier this year during the National EMS Memorial Service’s “Moving Honors” procession.

The crash marked a tragic loss for the Redding medical community. Smith’s dedication to saving lives through emergency medical services left a lasting impact on those who knew her and the patients she served.
