(FOX40.COM) — A caretaker in Sacramento is being accused of murder after a missing person was found dead.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 25, the Sacramento Police Department responded to a welfare check request in the 2000 block of San Juan Road after family members reported they had not heard from their family member. When officers arrived at the scene, they did not find the individual, and a missing person report was filed.

Detectives continued to follow up on this case, and on Nov. 6, SPD executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, a person was found dead, according to SPD. The person’s caretaker, Christina Cowens, 41, of Sacramento, was arrested and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail. She faces charges related to murder, unlawful disposal of human remains, grand theft, concealment/attempt to conceal a death, and fraud.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, and the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with relevant information can call SPD at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
