FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno woman marking one year since her breast cancer diagnosis says her determination and positive outlook are what keep her fighting every day.

April Moreno was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer last October.

She said the news came as a shock, especially since no one in her family had ever been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Dr. Lisa Ge, breast cancer program director at Community Cancer Institute, said Moreno’s diagnosis was caught through a routine screening.

Moreno said she never skips her annual mammogram and credits early detection for saving her life.

Despite the early diagnosis, her treatment journey continues. But through it all, Moreno leans on her mindset to push forward.

One year later, she said she’s grateful to still be here.

“I’m alive,” Moreno said. “So, whatever else comes my way, let it come.”
