Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on suspicion of kidnapping and other crimes after receiving a report of a woman being abducted early Thursday in east Bakersfield.
A KCSO news release said Joseph Cruz, age 38, was taken into custody after his truck, reportedly used in the woman’s kidnapping, was found in the 800 block of Exchange Street.
The release said deputies responded to a report of the abduction at 4:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Pacific Street. It said witnesses reported the woman in her 30s tried to pull away from Cruz but that she was ultimately placed in his truck.
KCSO said Cruz is also accused of domestic violence, possession of an illegal weapon and unrelated narcotics crimes.
