The 20th California Capital Airshow is set to take flight this weekend at Mather Airport in Sacramento County beginning at noon on Saturday.

This year’s show is also promising a nighttime aerial spectacular unlike anything most have even seen, according to organizers and pilots.

“When the sun goes down, the skies light up,” California Capital Airshow CEO Darcy Brewer said. “I don’t think anyone has seen anything like this before. I think it will be sensory overload in the skies at night with drones, fireworks, and balls of fire and so much more—and airplanes with pyrotechnics and LED lights all flying.

One of those airplanes with pyrotechnics is Kyle Fowler’s distinctive 1986 Long-EZ aircraft.

“I’m going to strap some fireworks on the wings,” Fowler said. “It’s going to be unlike anything most have ever seen at an airshow.”

Gates open Saturday at noon with afternoon performances beginning at 3:30 p.m.

“America’s 250th birthday this year on our 20th anniversary is a big thank-you card to our region. It is going to be unforgettable,” said Brewer.
