OAKLAND — Four boys — one aged 12 and the others 15 — were arrested Thursday night after they allegedly beat and carjacked a man in East Oakland, authorities said.
The violence began about 11:20 p.m. Thursday in the 1700 block of East 24th Street. A 61-year-old man had just parked his 2009 Chevrolet Aveo and was walking to his home in the area when he was confronted by the suspects, authorities said.
He was punched in the face and then held down on the ground while his vehicle keys were taken, authorities said. The suspects then fled in the car. The man did not require hospitalization.
The vehicle was spotted a short time later by patrol officers in the area of High Street and Brookdale Avenue.
A brief vehicle pursuit ensued before the suspects drove to the 2500 block of Lilac Street, a cul- de-sac, where they abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot.
They were all arrested and were later booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall. Authorities confirmed the suspects are Oakland residents and are not related. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
