BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A pedestrian was struck and killed late Friday night by an suspected hit-and-run driver in central Bakersfield, and police made an arrest shortly after.
The collision was reported in the area of the 900 block of Brundage Lane at around 10:20 p.m. The Bakersfield Police Department said a man was crossing the street in a crosswalk at South P Street, but against a red light. The driver — identified by police as Patience Ervin, 29 — was heading westbound on Brundage Lane when the collision happened.
The man suffered severe injuries in the collision and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The man will be identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office at a later time.
Speed or impairment were not factors in the crash, police said in a statement.
Ervin was located and taken into custody about 30 minutes after the incident, officials told 17 News late Friday.
Ervin was arrested for hit-and-run resulting in death, according to arrest records.
