Following their second loss of the season the Fresno State Bulldogs may have been seemingly eliminated from College Football Playoff contention. That doesn’t mean that fans should give up on them halfway through the season.
After allowing 274 rushing yards, being outgained 512-346, and losing The Milk Can, 38-31, it can seem like the bleakest of days after a contest as there has been under Matt Entz, but the Bulldogs still have much to play for, and with a little help can still win the Pac-12.
Yes, Boise State would have to stub their toe twice with the Bulldogs losing anymore, but crazier things have happened. The Broncos do meet Oregon State later this season, who looks poised to become the third contender in the conference. And San Diego State might be healthy at the end of the season to give the Broncos fits.
Nonetheless, the Bulldogs have San Diego State coming up, who were just lit up by the aforementioned Oregon State team, 66-14.
Then after a bye week, Oregon State comes to the Valley. After that the schedule sets up nicely for the Bulldogs. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that this team gets to 10 wins this season. And who knows, if Oregon State pulls off the upset over Boise State and the Bulldogs beat Oregon State, a three-way tie for the title would be a nice consolation prize to losing the Milk Can.
“We just had a good conversation about the next one is the most important one,” Coach Entz said after the game. “It’s important to go 1-0 next week and that starts tomorrow.”
As fans, we can follow his lead and be not only optimistic but also move past this loss so as to not let it spiral into becoming a bad season when so far, it has been pretty solid and can get better.
Kickoff for next week’s contest with San Diego State will be at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.
