A Ventura County man was arrested for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his mother several times during a confrontation.
The suspect was identified as Ryan Goldstein, 26, of Thousand Oaks, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
On Nov. 9, deputies responded to an apartment in the 2500 block of Hickory Wood Lane in Thousand Oaks just after 10:30 a.m.
Authorities entered the home and spotted the victim, identified only as a 54-year-old woman, who had a stab wound to her back and multiple lacerations to her face and head. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation revealed that Goldstein had allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times in the head, face and back before fleeing the scene.
Deputies spotted Goldstein in a common area of his apartment complex. When they approached him, he “abruptly turned and struck a deputy in the face, causing a minor injury,” authorities said.
He continued to struggle with deputies before he was eventually taken into custody.
“During the altercation, a second deputy sustained a hand injury,” the sheriff’s office said. Both deputies were later treated at the hospital.
Goldstein was arrested for attempted murder, resisting an executive officer, and battery against a peace officer causing injury. The weapon used in the attack, along with additional evidence, was also found at the apartment.
An arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 12.
“The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to upholding the safety and security of our community and will take swift action against those who choose to commit crimes within the county,” the department said.
