Re “Becerra is ghosting the media — me included” (Oct. 8): I want to compliment U-T Community Opinion Editor Tania Navarro for an insightful and spot-on essay. It is obvious Becerra is not only ghosting the media but the general public as well. This is not surprising as he has no legitimate accomplishments to talk about.

He is an unimaginative political hack who likely will be ushered into office because he belongs to the political party that has California in its death grip. I will be shocked if she hears from him or his handlers as it is clear he has absolutely nothing to gain by public exposure and as the first (and likely only) debate proved he is not articulate, well informed, or ready to govern.

There is a vast difference in being informed on issues and spouting talking points.

I was saddened to read that columnist Tania Navarro has apparently been “ghosted” by gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra. Access to candidates by journalists allows the public to gain a clearer picture of what the candidates believe are the challenges facing our state and informs voters about candidates’ plans to tackle these important issues. I applaud Navarro’s attempt to gain answers.

I was however troubled by Navarro’s statement that “as a Latina, I wanted to see a Hispanic go big in California.” Can you imagine a White journalist making a similar statement, saying that they wanted to see “a White go big in California”? The outrage would be immediate. Aren’t we far past the days of using race as a factor in deciding who shall represent us in government?
