Authorities are investigating a double murder-suicide involving two former San Francisco Police Department officers, according to sources.

At the scene on Sunday, family members could be heard crying out after learning that three people were found dead in a home in the community of Strawberry, which is unincorporated Mill Valley, in California.

Deputies responded to reports of gunshots being fired in the area just after 5 p.m. on Sunday, and a call from someone who was in that home when the shots were fired, according to our sister station KGO.

“Inside the home, they discovered three deceased bodies. The nature of those victims and their connection to one another are all part of our active investigations,” said Miguel Almaguer of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Almaguer gave no specifics on the circumstances around the shooting.

However, sources confirmed to KGO that former San Francisco Police Sergeant Kevin Mannix is the shooting suspect. Sources also say that his wife, Ann Mannix, a former San Francisco Police Department Deputy Chief, was shot and killed, along with the couple’s 25-year-old daughter.

Sources with intimate knowledge of what happened said that Kevin Mannix shot and killed his wife, then his daughter, before turning the gun on himself.

Property records show that the home is owned by the two former officers.

Authorities say this is an active investigation and that there is no threat to the public.
