Hydration Room, a chain of wellness clinics in California and Texas, opened one of its newest locations in West Berkeley, making it 1 of 10 locations in the Bay Area alone.
At Hydration Room Berkeley, there are more than 30 treatment options, including IV therapies, injection therapies, weight management, hormone support and more. Services range from “Hangover IV Therapy,” to “Stress Rescue,” to testosterone replacement therapy.
Services include peptides and B-12 injections. The clinic’s “Skinny Shot Injection” contains B-12, and it also carries peptide injections such as GLP-1 shots. Hydration Room also sells peptides through its online store.
Numerous scientists have shared concerns about the lack of clinical evidence behind peptides. However, a panel of outside Food and Drug Administration experts voted to recommend dropping restrictions on several peptides, including BCP-157 and TB-500, in July.
Rita Jew, a pharmacist and president at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, told AP News, “There aren’t that many other substances people are injecting into themselves where you see that the clinical evidence is so lacking.”
“Patients complete a medical clearance with a nurse practitioner, who reviews their medical history and wellness goals,” said Tina McClelland, the vice president of marketing at Hydration Room, in an email. “Orders and care decisions are made by licensed providers under physician supervision, and our team will decline any therapy that isn’t appropriate for a patient. Therapies are administered by licensed registered nurses within their scope of practice, with nurse practitioners and medical leadership available for escalation.”
Treatment begins with a consultation by the licensed medical team to determine which treatment is the right fit.
McClelland emphasized the precautions the Hydration Room clinic takes to ensure safety for its patients.
“Patient safety is central to Hydration Room’s clinical model and is a primary reason patients trust us with their IV and injection therapies,” McClelland said in the email. “Products are stored and prepared according to our clinical protocols, and we follow clear policies on Beyond Use Dates. Our teams monitor patients throughout therapy and are trained to recognize and respond to adverse reactions, with medical staff available for support.”
According to McClelland, Hydration Room adheres to the USP 797 and Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines, which are quality standards that ensure medicinal products are produced and controlled to high safety standards.
“Berkeley is exactly the kind of community Hydration Room is built for,” McClelland said in the email. “It is home to high-performing professionals, athletes, students, and families who want to feel and perform their best, and it has a health-conscious culture where people think about wellness proactively.”
