Originally airing in 2002, “Classic Chronicle” visits Bath, New Hampshire, where former Californians embrace small-town life, restore historic landmarks and pursue unexpected passions

Bath, New Hampshire, becomes the setting for a series of unexpected stories in this “Classic Chronicle” segment that originally aired in 2002, as reporter Ted Reinstein meets people who left California behind for life in the Granite State. According to “Classic Chronicle,” the town is known for its covered bridge and historic Brick Store, where owners Mike and Nancy Lusby relocated after spotting the property for sale. Mike Lusby recalls, “We flew out, checked it out, fell in love with it… We came out and did it anyways.” He says the business grew from one employee to 24 during peak season.

“Classic Chronicle” also introduces Julie and Craig Persley, who first discovered Bath during a foliage tour before eventually moving there while continuing to work for California employers through telecommuting. Julie says neighbors quickly made them feel welcome, recalling, “Within days I had invitations to dinner… People have been wonderful.” The segment also visits Tom Salmon’s caboose home and a local couple who turned the idea for custom cremation urns into a business after the loss of their cat.
