Oct 13, 2026 —

On Thursday, October 15th, 2026, at 10:15 a.m., Fresno City College will participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Preparedness Drill. The drill will only take place at FCC, this year buildings and offices will not be evacuated.

This annual statewide exercise helps our campus community practice how to stay safe during an earthquake and reinforces the importance of being prepared.

During the drill, you will receive a series of 1st2Know emergency notifications on your devices. These messages will guide you through the exercise:

Initial Notification (10:10 a.m.) – You will receive a message announcing the start of the drill and a reminder to practice earthquake safety.

Drill Message (10:15 a.m.)– The message will simulate a 7.8 magnitude earthquake and instruct you to Drop, Cover, and Hold On:

DROP to your hands and knees.

COVER your head and neck under a sturdy desk or table (or use your arms if none are nearby).

HOLD ON until the shaking stops.

Final Notification (10:17 a.m.) – An “All Clear” message will be sent indicating the drill has ended and that you may resume normal activities.

Please take this opportunity to review your surroundings, identify safe spaces and discuss emergency plans with colleagues and students. Practicing now helps ensure we all know how to respond quickly and safely in the event of a real earthquake.
