BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Board of Supervisors has approved a project revolving around building a commerce center near the Meadows Field Airport.
All five of the county supervisors voted in favor of the project, dubbed the Airport Commerce Center Industrial Project. With the supervisor’s approval, the project’s needed land use entitlements have been greenlit, which are required to construct and operate the commerce center.

Specifically, the project will including a 1.5 million square-foot industrial warehouse facility that will house two “quickserve” restaurants on 110 acres of land in an unincorporated area of Oildale in northwestern Kern County, on the north side of Merle Haggard Drive and on the west side of Airport Drive.
Other parts of the warehouse will include cold storage areas, industrial manufacturing and office space, according to county documents.
The Airport Commerce Center Industrial Project would be under construction for about 29 months, the documents indicated, and would occur during daylight hours, seven days per week.
County filings said the on-site construction would include about 100 workers in its workforce. Once built, the retail uses of the project would employ about 40 people.
