On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the KMAC Foundation for Accessible Sailing in San Diego held a boat commissioning and joint day of sailing. Partnering with Waves-4-All, Wounded Warriors, and the High Fives Foundation, the event was a day to remember. Numerous members of our local sailing community and Coronado Yacht Club leadership were on hand to celebrate this exciting new day for adaptive sailing in Coronado.

The day began with a commissioning ceremony. Thanks to a generous grant from the City of Coronado and numerous private donations, three new Hansa sailboats arrived in Coronado last June. The boats were all named for people of special importance to both the Coronado Yacht Club and the Accessible Sailing community. With these new boats, the KMAC Foundation hopes to expand their mission of providing free sailing lessons to members of our community whose physical limitations might otherwise prevent them from experiencing the joy of sailing.

After the commissioning, it was time to get on the water. Launching all three new boats alongside their others was quite a feat, but the dedicated team of volunteers make it look easy. Representatives from both the High Fives Foundation and Waves-4-All Adaptive Surfing were on hand for the joint afternoon of sailing. You might have spotted Waves-4-All’s catamaran in the water this weekend in and around Glorietta Bay as our colorful fleet zipped around. Hungry sailors were then treated to a BBQ at the Coronado Yacht Club, closing out another incredible day of camaraderie and community.
