San Jose Sharks News & Notes

The Sharks placed forward Alex Barré-Boulet on waivers Tuesday with the intent of assigning him to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. Barré-Boulet signed a two-year, two-way deal and was limited in the preseason by an injury that put him on injured reserve. He finished second in AHL scoring last season with 70 points in 70 games, including 26 goals, and added 12 points in 17 playoff games. The Barracuda opened 1-3-0-0.

San Jose dropped a 3-1 decision to Edmonton on Oct. 10 despite matching the Oilers 20-20 in shots and outhitting them 34-24. Macklin Celebrini scored in the third period, assisted by Michael Misa, and Yaroslav Askarov stopped 17 of 20. Two nights earlier, without Celebrini, the Sharks spoiled St. Louis’ home opener 3-2 in overtime on Darnell Nurse’s goal. Tyler Toffoli also scored, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 25 saves in his first start.

Nashville Predators News & Notes

Nashville made a mid-October addition to its blue line, acquiring defenseman Jayden Struble from Montreal in exchange for a draft pick. The move followed a late-September signing of forward Tyson Jost to a one-year, two-way contract and the club’s submission of its 23-man roster ahead of a season opener against Minnesota at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators have also been shorthanded in goal, with Justus Annunen placed on injured reserve in early October, and a defenseman landing on IR days later.

The Predators opened a homestand with a loss to Vegas, a game in which Struble drew attention in his first appearance with his new club. Nashville also practiced recently in new navy blue Hometown Remix gear.

Players To Watch

Macklin Celebrini — San Jose Sharks

Celebrini comes in off a 1G 1A night with a game-high five shots in 19:51 of ice time, and he was on the ice for plenty of San Jose’s offense. He’s the straightforward shots-on-goal prop play here, and anyone needing fantasy points from the Sharks’ top line starts with him.

Filip Forsberg — Nashville Predators

Forsberg fired seven shots and picked up an assist in 23:06 last time out, and Box Score Junkie has him at 54.1% Corsi-for with 59.2 shot attempts for per 60 this season to date — the best drive-the-play numbers on the roster. He’s also sitting at zero goals on 1.9 expected, so the finishing is overdue.
