Global Law students students and members of the International Law Students Association (ILSA) came together at Monster Jam for an evening of loud engines, big jumps, and new friendships, all part of an ongoing effort to help international students experience American culture firsthand.

On September 6, Santa Clara Law students traded the library for the stadium and headed to the SAP Center in San Jose for Monster Jam. The outing, organized by the Center for Global Law and Policy (CGLP) was designed as a cultural immersion experience. It gave our LLM students, many of whom are new to the United States, the chance to take part in a distinctly American tradition alongside their JD peers.

Many of our LLM students have told us they hope to connect with more American classmates outside the classroom. To help make that happen, Sophia Rumar, a member of the International Law Students Association (ILSA), joined the group and sat with LLM students throughout the event.

Legal education is stronger when students learn from one another’s backgrounds and perspectives. Events like Monster Jam complement the classroom by giving students a relaxed setting to build community, practice conversational English, and gain a deeper understanding of the country where many will study, work, and build their careers.
