Atwater Village—The nonprofit that organizes the Atwater Village Tree lighting is holding a fundraiser to trim the tree. Noting that “some years our beloved tree has had a little, ahem, straggly Charlie Brown charm,” Atwater Village Events said, “we want to properly trim and prepare the tree, then significantly upgrade the lighting so the centerpiece of our Tree Lighting Festival finally gets the glow-up it deserves.” They’re trying to raise $12,000 — and the tree has to be professionally trimmed this month. Honoring Latino businesses
Boyle Heights—Historic markers were unveiled Thursday at three small businesses along the 2700 block of Cesar Chavez Avenue, launching a citywide program honoring 140 sites in Los Angeles’s Latino communities. The Paramount music venue, El 7 Mares restaurant, and Candelas Guitars were honored Thursday by the Historic Places LA Revealed: Latino Los Angeles program. The first 56 honorees are in Council District 14, according to Mason Santa Maria, a spokesperson for City Councilmember Ysabel Jurado.
