Cal State Fullerton Police Department arrested two individuals early Sunday who were attempting to steal an e-scooter from the campus housing complex.
According to Detective Sergeant Christopher Brown, both 30-year-old individuals were unaffiliated with CSUF and possessed burglary tools and narcotics.
Both were released from custody with citations and will appear in court at a later date.
The incident happened on Nov. 2 around 5:30 a.m. when officers observed suspicious activity at the bike rack. According to Sgt. Brown, the officers were patrolling the area due to an increase of scooter and bicycle theft that usually occurs in the fall term.
“The two non-affiliated individuals were questioned and subsequently arrested for theft and other misdemeanor charges,” Sgt. Brown wrote in an email to the Daily Titan.
Additionally, that same weekend, a Hiboy S2 scooter was reported stolen and it has yet to be recovered.
Two years ago, CSUF PD published on Instagram advising students to use a U-lock to secure the vehicle and place an Air Tag in case it is stolen.
“We’ve seen increased electric bicycle and scooter thefts at the university, primarily in the Housing, College Park, and College of Business areas. The thefts generally occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and happen within a matter of seconds,” the post reads.
