SAN JOSE, Calif. — UC Davis volleyball secured the team’s second sweep of the season in the first of two contests against San Jose State on Friday, Oct. 16.

FIRST SERVE

The team offense saw four different players secure five or more kills, with Brooke Hibino leading the way with 10.
Defense led the way for the Aggies. In front of the net, Ally Chandler led the way with five blocks while Isabella Umpierre protected the back court with 12 digs.
Mia Starr effectively set up the offense with 22 assists.
Once again, the service line was on point all night long, with the team collectively collecting nine service aces, tied for the second-most in a single match this season.

WHAT HEAD COACH DAN CONNERS HAD TO SAY

“Our play cleaned up from last week.  We were very efficient on offense. Our serving disrupted a lot of what they wanted to do. We need to be ready to bounce back and continue to increase our level of play tomorrow.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

After trading points with their opponent to begin the match, the Aggies took their first lead on a 3-0 led by a service ace by Khloe Wong.
Both teams continued to battle back-and-forth in the middle part of the set, with a 5-0 service run giving them a 15-13 lead at the technical timeout.
Coming back on the court, the Ags and Spartans continued battling point-for-point, with three straight by the home team putting them on the brink at 24-23.
With their backs against the wall, Davis struck back with kills by Starr and Hibino capping off a comeback 26-24 set one victory.
Continuing their momentum from set one, the Aggies began set two with the first six points.
The Spartans attempted to power their offense with a 3-1 scoring run, but Davis continued to apply the pressure with another run of five straight to put the road team up 15-6 at the break.
Three kills late from Umpierre powered the offense late, giving her team a 25-12 win and 2-0 lead in the match.
Down 1-2 to begin the third, offense from Gianna Bogan and Starr generated an 8-1 run for an early 9-3 advantage.
An ace from Starr capitalized on five of six points for an identical set two 15-6 lead at the technical timeout.
Up 19-11 late, three more service aces from the Aggies, one by Chandler and two more for Starr, powered yet another run of 7-1, matching set two’s final score of 25-12, securing the second sweep of the year for the team.
