TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A man entered a guilty plea Friday in the Shawnee County District Court in connection with a September 2025 homicide in the Oakland neighborhood of northeast Topeka.
The man, Dalton Wolf Thompson, 29, entered the plea on Friday.

According to court records, Thompson also entered a guilty plea to an attempted murder charge in the case.
An aggravated battery charge was dismissed, court records show.
In January 2026, Thompson had entered not guilty pleas to the first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery charges, according to court records.
The incident for which Thompson was charged occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 4, 2025, in the 1000 block of N.E. Poplar Street, just northeast of Oakland Billard Park.
Two men were shot in the incident, and one man, identified as Joseph Lee Kaberline, 37, of Topeka, died at the scene.
The other person who was shot was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Thompson, who remains in the Shawnee County Jail on a $1 million bond, is set for sentencing at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, 2026, officials said.
