Police in San Jose arrested a man who allegedly approached and stabbed a stranger in September, the department said Thursday.

On Sept. 26, officers were sent to a San Jose hospital after receiving a report of a man with stab wounds. The victim told police he had been walking in the area of Branham Lane and Kingspark Drive when a man unknown to him approached him; the suspect grabbed the man and stabbed him multiple times before leaving the scene. The victim was able to take himself to the hospital and survived.

Surveillance footage was obtained and detectives identified the suspect as Paul Marquez, 30. An arrest warrant was issued for Marquez and he was apprehended on Oct. 3 in San Jose.

Marquez was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Due to the random nature of the alleged attack, detectives are concerned there may be more victims. Anyone with information about this case or similar cases is asked to contact Detective Wilson via email at 4917@sanjoseca.gov or by phone at 408-277-4161.
