A plate reader captured an image of the 24-year-old’s vehicle and plate before it was smashed
OAKLAND COUNTY – A 24-year-old Clarkston man accused of smashing several license plate readers “to pieces” in Oakland County had pleaded guilty to all charges issued in the case.
Spencer Anderson was charged with three counts of malicious destruction of police property after prosecutors say he forcibly broke the plate readers from their mounts and smashed them to pieces on Feb. 23.

Although the license plate readers were damaged, police said one of the cameras was able to capture an image of Anderson’s car and license plate first.

Video footage from a nearby business also captured a person exiting the car and using a blunt instrument to hit two license plate cameras until they broke off their mounts. After further investigation, Waterford police arrested Anderson.
Anderson entered a guilty plea during his final disposition at the Oakland County Circuit Court on Tuesday, though his attorney also filed a motion to dismiss two of the three counts.
He’s scheduled to be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 1.
