Space shuttle

Los Angeles is getting a major new destination for science and space enthusiasts. The California Science Center is set to open the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center on November 13, 2026. This new 200,000-square-foot expansion will nearly double the museum’s existing exhibit space.

The new center will showcase the Space Shuttle Endeavour in its awe-inspiring launch configuration, complete with its external fuel tank and solid rocket boosters. The display will offer visitors a rare opportunity to see the shuttle positioned as it would have appeared before a launch.

The expansion will also feature a collection of 100 aerospace artifacts, including rare and historically significant objects, alongside 100 new hands-on exhibits focused on science and engineering.

Spanning 200,000 square feet, the new center will bring aerospace history and scientific discovery together through three new galleries dedicated to spaceflight, aviation, and space exploration.

Beyond the historic artifacts, visitors can look forward to interactive experiences designed to demonstrate the science behind flight and engineering. The exhibits will give guests opportunities to engage with scientific concepts rather than simply viewing displays.

The centerpiece is undoubtedly Endeavour, which will be displayed vertically alongside its external fuel tank and solid rocket boosters. The striking installation will give visitors a new perspective on the scale and engineering behind NASA’s Space Shuttle program.
