Last week, I bought 30 gallons of diesel gas for my truck at a cost of $234. I’m a retired teacher with a master’s degree who taught for 30 years. My take-home income is $2,400 a month. I need two tanks a month, approximately $450, which comes out to 20% of my salary.
I remember when the rule of thumb was that 20%-25% of earnings went to housing. Now it goes for gas. I remember when I bought the first tank of gas for my ’53 Chevy. It took 10 gallons, cost me just a few bucks and included a box of Kleenex, a glass and Blue Chip Stamps — and my gas was pumped and my windows were washed.
I have been retired for 28 years. Thank goodness my house is paid for. Try living on $2,400 per month with $450 going for gasoline. Thank you, Mr. President. Since he likes to change names, he should change MAGA to, “Make Affordable Gas Again.”
