Two men were found dead in a Long Beach home after police responded to reports of gunfire that resulted in an officer-involved-shooting, according to a news release.
Long Beach officers went to the 3700 block of Gardenia Avenue just after 1:40 a.m. after a resident reported hearing two shots, police said.
After arriving, officers found a man in a home who threatened to shoot at officers, police said. The officers retreated and called for backup.
The suspect later allegedly fired shots at the officers, leading one officer to shoot back, police said.
No officers were injured.
The suspect remained inside the home as a SWAT team was called in, police said.
After entering the home, they discovered two men dead, police said, both with gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Evidence, including multiple firearms, was found inside the home, police said.
Whether the man identified as the suspect was believed to have killed the man identified as a subject, was not yet known. It was also not yet confirmed if the suspect died from the officer’s gunfire or a self-inflicted gun shot.
The Long Beach Police Department said they will be conducting a thorough review of the incident. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will conduct their own independent investigation of the officer involved shooting.
The identities of the two men were withheld by police pending notification of their relatives.
