A woman “engaging in self-harm” Saturday morning on Highway 101 in San Jose died after officers responded and transported her to a local hospital, police said.

Officials have not yet identified the victim.

A spokesperson for the San Jose Police Department said an officer arrived at Highway 101 at about 11:15 a.m. near Metcalf Road, at the edge of the city’s southeastern border. Multiple 911 callers had said the woman was harming herself. A police spokesperson did not immediately say how.

Police officers took the woman into custody and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the police spokesperson wrote in an email.
