Cal State LA has been selected as a Los Angeles County Vote Center for the Nov. 3 general election. The polling station will be located on the fourth floor in the Palmer Wing of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library.
The announcement comes as California is currently facing a dispute over voter eligibility. The U.S Justice Department has demanded that the state, as well as Los Angeles County elections officials, verify the citizenship of thousands of voters before they cast their ballots, according to the LA Times.
“Cal State LA is proud to serve as a Vote Center, and make voting more accessible to people across Los Angeles County,” said Cal State LA President Berenecea Johnson Eanes. “Our university’s connection to Los Angeles is central to who we are, and supporting civic participation is one way we help strengthen the communities we call home.”
Los Angeles county voters can cast their ballots for an extended voting period at any Vote Centers located around the county. This year, Cal State LA will have a voting center available not just for students and staff, but also for Los Angeles County residents.
This location will be opened Saturday, Oct. 31, through Election Day on Tuesday, Nov 3. For individuals that cannot vote in person, drive through voting will be available in Lot 4, the Cal State LA voting press release said. The Los Angeles County Registrar-Records office has an official permanent ballot drop box installed on campus. The ballot drop box is located near Lot 4, directly across from the career center.
Free visitor parking will be available for voters, which includes accessible parking spaces located in the upper level of Structure C. If parking is at capacity, please see more information on the Visitor Parking webpage.
The last day for California Residents to be registered to vote is at least 15 days before Election Day. This year, the last day to register falls on Monday, Oct. 19.
For further Election Day deadlines, go to Election Dates and Resources on the California Secretary of State’s Office.
Once the registration deadline has passed for an upcoming election, you can visit a County Elections Office, a voting center or a satellite office chosen by your county election officials during the 14 days prior to Election Day. Voters can still register to vote even if they pass the deadline by voting with a provisional ballot, which is a regular ballot that is placed in a special envelope prior to being put in a ballot box. For more information, visit the Provisional Voting webpage.
