A Sacramento man has been sentenced to 650 years to life in state prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting two children over several years.

A judge sentenced 43-year-old Michael Jones to the lengthy prison term after a jury convicted him last month on 16 counts of child sexual assault.

Prosecutors said Jones fled after one victim came forward about years of abuse. He remained hidden from law enforcement for seven years, during which time prosecutors said he sexually assaulted another child.

Under a new California law, Jones will not be eligible for an elder parole hearing until he is 65 years old and has served at least 25 years.
