LISA. ALL RIGHT. WE’LL CHECK BACK IN WITH YOU. AND WITH THAT WET AND WINDY WEATHER ON THE WAY, SACRAMENTO COUNTY IS OPENING A WEATHER RESPITE CENTER TO HELP SHELTER VULNERABLE RESIDENTS. KCRA 3’S LETICIA ORDAZ SHOWS US HOW THIS LOCATION IS READY TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. THE GOAL WITH RESPITE CENTERS IS REALLY TO GET PEOPLE OFF THE STREETS AND INTO A WARM LOCATION SO THEY CAN RIDE OUT THE STORM. JENNA HAYNES JOINS US TODAY WITH MORE ON WHAT THEY’RE DOING TO MAKE PEOPLE EXTRA COMFORTABLE, ESPECIALLY THE UNHOUSED. YEAH, WE’RE BRINGING PEOPLE IN OUT OF THE ELEMENTS, THE WIND AND THE RAIN, GIVING THEM A WARM PLACE TO SLEEP, WARM FOOD, ACCESS TO SHOWERS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES. IT CAN BE SUCH A CHALLENGE TO REACH CERTAIN PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY. WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO FOLKS WHO ARE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT COMING TO A PLACE LIKE THIS? YOU KNOW, THIS IS A SAFE PLACE WHERE WE WANT YOU TO LITERALLY GET RESPITE FROM THE ELEMENTS THAT YOU’RE IN. WE WANT TO HELP YOU. THIS IS A PLACE TO HELP YOU. AND YOU KNOW IT’S A GREAT FIRST STEP INTO GETTING SERVICES. DO YOU IMAGINE THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO TURN ANYONE AWAY? HOW MANY BEDS CAN FIT HERE? SO RIGHT NOW IT’S STAGED WITH 85 BEDS. WE CAN SURGE CAPACITY UP TO 100. THIS IS A PRETTY SHORT CIRCUMSTANCE. WE MAY NOT SEE IT FILL, BUT DURING THOSE LONG WEATHER EVENTS, WE CERTAINLY SEE IT FILL. AND WHILE THIS IS A TEMPORARY SOLUTION, YOU’RE REALLY LOOKING FOR LONG TERM SOLUTIONS. AND WHAT’S BEEN THE SUCCESS OF HAVING RESPITE CENTERS IN OUR COMMUNITY? SO FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE NOT TYPICALLY ENGAGED IN SERVICES, THIS IS A GREAT FIRST STEP FOR US TO GET THEM INTO MY SYSTEM. WE WERE ABLE TO GET MORE THAN A DOZEN PEOPLE INTO SHELTER AFTER LAST WINTER, AND THAT’S REALLY THE GOAL IS TO CAPTURE THEM WHILE WE HAVE THEM AND GET THEM THE SERVICES THEY NEED. THANK YOU SO MUCH. ALL RIGHT. THE GOAL IS TO KEEP THIS RESPITE CENTER OPEN UNTIL FRIDAY. AND DOORS HERE OPEN TODAY AT 3 P.M. IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY. LETICIA ORDAZ. KCRA THREE NEWS. OFFICIALS SAY THE COUNTY WILL MONITOR THE WEATHER TO SEE IF TH
