Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will receive the Los Angeles Press Club’s Visionary Award for Humanitarian Work at its annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards Gala in December, the organization announced Tuesday.

The ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 6 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Carlile, an 11-time Grammy Award winner, two-time Emmy winner, Oscar nominee and bestselling author, is being recognized for her philanthropic work and advocacy for human rights and social justice, according to the press club.

The singer has raised more than $10 million through her Looking Out Foundation to support grassroots causes, donating a portion of every concert ticket sold as well as proceeds from her XOBC Cellars wine club, the organization said.

“We are excited to have Brandi Carlile as this year’s Visionary Awardee. Her work is amazing and, during these troubling times, desperately needed,” Los Angeles Press Club President Danny Bakewell Jr. said in a statement.

“Topical songs like `The Joke,’ `Human’ and `Church & State’ have spoken to her vision for social justice, as well as providing a showcase for one of the great voices in contemporary music. Her eagerness to reach out has led her to collaborate closely with figures like Elton John and Joni Mitchell, but that spirit isn’t just reserved for her heroes; it’s her compassion for society’s underdogs that has most touched millions of listeners.”

The press club established the Visionary Award in 2012 to honor entertainment figures who use their public profiles to advance humanitarian causes, freedom and social justice.

Actress Jane Fonda was the inaugural recipient, with Robert Redford presenting the award.

Carlile released her eighth studio album, “Returning To Myself,” in 2025 and performed “America the Beautiful” at the Super Bowl and at the Statue of Liberty during celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary this year.

She also recently completed the North American leg of her first U.S. arena headlining tour, “The Human Tour.”

During the tour, Carlile livestreamed a Minneapolis concert, “Be Human: A Concert for Minneapolis,” which raised more than $750,000 for The Advocates for Human Rights through her Looking Out Foundation, according to the press club.

The Dec. 6 gala will also honor KCRW radio host Madeleine Brand with the Luminary Award for Career Achievement in Media. Additional honorees are expected to be announced.

The National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards were established in 2008 to recognize reporting on the arts and entertainment industries.

The annual ceremony also serves as a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Press Club, a nonprofit journalism organization.
